  • How to Care for Your Knitwear

A Guide to Extending the Life of Natural Fibres.

As the temperature drops and Winter fashions call, it's imperative to ensure that your beloved sweaters and cardigans receive the TLC they deserve. Here are some secrets to caring for your knitwear and preserving those luxurious natural fibres.

    Tip 1: Handle with Care

First things first, let's talk about handling. Knitwear, particularly pieces crafted from delicate natural fibres like wool and cashmere, demand a gentle touch. Avoid rough handling or excessive pulling, as this can lead to stretching and distortion of the fabric. Instead, opt for a light touch and handle your knitwear with the utmost care. Also be aware of any jewellery you might be wearing to avoid snags!

    Tip 2: Cold Wash

When it comes to washing your knitwear, cold water is your best friend. Hot water can cause natural fibres to shrink and lose their shape, so opt for a cool, gentle cycle when laundering your beloved knits. Even better - hand wash your knitwear. Additionally, avoid harsh detergents, mild, wool-specific detergents better maintain the integrity of the fibres. Baby shampoo also works very well! However, always refer to the care instructions on the garment tag or if in doubt give us a call and chat to our team!

    Tip 3: Air Dry

Resist the temptation to toss your knitwear into the dryer for a quick fix! Instead, embrace the art of air-drying. Lay your knitwear flat on a clean towel, reshaping as necessary, and allow it to dry naturally away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Patience is indeed a virtue when it comes to preserving the longevity of your knitwear.

    Tip 4: Smart Storage

As the seasons change and it's time to bid adieu to your beloved knitwear until next year, proper storage is paramount. Opt for breathable storage solutions such as cotton garment bags or acid-free tissue paper to protect your knits from dust and moths. And remember, always store your knitwear in a cool, dry place to prevent mildew and odours from taking hold.Additionally, knitwear should always be folded - not hung. !

    Tip 4: Gentle Grooming

Last but certainly not least, let's talk grooming. Invest in a soft-bristled garment brush to gently remove any lint or pills that may accumulate on your knitwear over time. Brush in a downward motion to avoid causing any damage to the fibres, and voila – your knitwear will be looking as good as new in no time.
